Mens Fitted Dress Shirts

Get That Professional Look With Men’s Fitted Dress Shirts

When you put on a dress shirt does it balloon out like a parachute? Do your arms look like signal flags because the sleeves are cut so full. If you have a Vee shaped torso how good can it look in a box shaped shirt? Or you may have a different problem. Maybe you’re taller or bigger than average. If you find a shirt that has enough room in the shoulders is it too tight around the waist?
If you want to look great at work you have to have a shirt that fits and looks great too. You need to look into mens fitted dress shirts.

Commercial dress shirt makers often will carry something they call an athletic cut which is a slimmer version of their standard shirt. The body will be tapered and the sleeves will be cut slimmer as well. The problem is there is no real standard for this type of cut so you can’t simply look for your neck and sleeve size; you have to try them on. The cuts will vary from brand to brand and even within the same brand depending on the type of shirt.

The advantage of course is that if you can find a brand that cuts the shirt so that it fits your body, you can buy today and wear tomorrow. You’ll look great. You’ll feel great. You’ll have a great presence going for you even with your suit jacket off. The downside is you may have to go through a bunch of shirts until you find the cut that works.

The same holds true if you are a big or tall man. Many manufactures will have sizes that are custom to your body type but again, you’ll have to actually try them on and not just rely on the size tag. And like the athletic cut, if your body doesn’t fit the brand’s idea of big or tall, some part of the shirt isn’t going to look so good.

Most of us buy our dress shirts in stores or online but there is another option that can make sense for the man who needs ands wants a truly fitted dress shirt. Custom shirts put together by an experienced tailor are the optimal fitted dress shirt. If you go this route the challenge will be to find a tailor who knows what he’s doing. The best way to find a reliable shop is to get a referral from a friend or associate who has already purchased a shirt. This gives you a chance to see the work and get a reliable evaluation both on service and price.

Once you have a tailor, you can expect to have 9 measurements done and you can expect to come in for at least one fitting before the shirt(s) are ready. The whole process could take as long as three weeks. However, once the tailor has made your first shirt, subsequent orders are simply picking out the fabric and style.

A hand made or “bespoke” shirt as it is sometimes called is a thing of beauty. When you walk into a conference room, the guy with the custom fitted shirt is easy to pick out. He’s easy to spot because his shirt, well his shirt fits unlike most of the others in the room.
